A closely contested match for the Senior League Team sees all to play for at the final league fixture in August.

A month on from fixture 2 and July wasn’t much kinder for a days athletics as early downpours continued in the peak of the British Summer Time! Fixture three was again one long away trip to our home at the Princess Mary Stadium as a tightly contested top of the league battle continued between ourselves and Holmfirth. So, let’s get into the action.

Molly Waring resumed her form for the season as she claimed victories in the 200m, 400m Hurdles and the 100m Hurdles in a Season’s Best time (SB), before also accumulating a second place in the High Jump, a fourth place in the Long Jump in an SB distance and finishing with a big Personal Best in the Javelin to finish third. Soraya Crodden was also picking up first places, with victories in the 400m in an SB time, a SB and win came in the 400m Hurdles B, another first came in the Triple Jump as well as one more in the Hammer B with a Personal Best (PB) throw. Soraya also claimed a third place finish in the 100m as well as a fourth place finish in the Discus.

Siobhan Maskill vaulted to new heights as she claimed second place with a new PB height in the Pole Vault, before going in for another second place in the Javelin B with a second best throw of the season and a fourth place finish in the Discus B on first competition attempt. Adaze Ulebor joined the senior team for the first time and sprinted to victory in the 100m B race in her second best time of the season and later ran a PB time in the 200m to finish second in the B race.

Estelle Williams had herself a shiny day, finishing in first place in the 100m Hurdles B race and also claiming a victory in the Shot Putt B with a new PB distance. It was then a second place finish in the 400m for Estelle, with a second place in the Long Jump B on the side. Olivia Myers only continued the points accumulation further as she claimed victory in the Hammer early doors, before going on to earn another victory in the Shot Putt with a PB throw and finished her day with a second place finish in the Triple Jump.

Onto the men’s side where Jake Darby had himself a day claiming victories in both the 400m Hurdles and 110m Hurdles, second place finishes in the Hammer, Shot Putt and Discus, gaining Season Best in all five events and somehow managing to fit in a 400m with a second best time of the season. Glenn Aspindle claimed an early victory again in the Pole Vault with a new PB height, another victory followed in the 110m Hurdles and a second place in the High Jump before ending his day with a victory in the Javelin.

Connor Bell was back in the team and earnt himself second place finishes in the Hammer and Discus with SB performance and threw a new PB distance in the Shot Putt for another second place finish. Kieran O’Brien secured himself a victory in the Pole Vault B with his second best height of the season, a victory in the Long Jump B with a big PB jump and finished with a third place finish and second best time of the season in the 400m Hurdles.

Seb Bartocha excelled again as he gained a new PB and a first place finish in the Triple Jump B, another victory came in the Javelin B with a second best distance of the year and finished with a third place finish and equal PB time in the 100m. Ethan Williams was back as the jack in a box, jumping in the Long Jump to a second place finish, a new PB distance and second place finish in the Triple Jump and finishing with a victory in the High Jump B.

Joe Trevett’s determination shone through as the youngster had strong runs in challenging races in both the 100 and 200m, finishing with his second best time of the season in the 200m. Robert Harness impressed with his runs over the 400m and the 800m distances, earning himself a new Personal Best time over the 800m and a third best of the season in the 400m to finish in fourth.

As tired legs and broken bodies started to set in at the end of the day, substitutions had to be made to field two relay teams.
The Women’s team of Williams, Waring, Ulebor and Crodden continued their fine form with another victory in the 4x100m relay.
Super sub Connor Bell stepped in so the men’s 4x100m team could race, the team of Trevett, Harness, Bell and Darby challenged right to the line as they successfully navigated the baton around.

The all important scores on the doors at the end of the day:
1. Holmfirth Harriers AC 368
2. Spenborough & District AC 338.5
3. Harrogate Harriers & AC 335.0
4. Bingley Harriers & AC 245.0
5. Longwood Harriers AC 175.0
6. Skyrac AC 170.0

One final fixture to go and one final push needed. Final fixture Saturday 17th August at home at the Princess Mary Stadium
