The second senior league fixture got underway once again at the Princess Mary Stadium making it another short ‘away fixture’. Although it was mid-June, you wouldn’t have been wrong to mistake the day for some time in March as the puddles gathered as the rain poured throughout the day. Though it was a miserable day for the weather, it was by no means a reflection of the results for Spenborough AC.

Glenn Aspindle would get the day kicked off in style as he leapt to first place in the Pole Vault, it would then be a further first place in the Javelin Throw and second place in the High Jump to round up his day.

Elliot Hoyland joined Glenn in the Pole Vault and a Second best height of the season earnt him second place in the B string. It was then a first try at the 400m Hurdles for him to earn a well fought third place finish.

It was also a good start to the day for Jake Darby as a second place finish in the Hammer throw was backed up with another second place finish in the Discus with a Seasons Best (SB) throw as well as a third place finish in the Shot Putt.

Kieran O’Brien turned his hand to the Hammer for the first time finishing fourth in the B string, before trying the 400m Hurdles for the first time and finishing first in the B race. A third place finish came soon after in the B Discus throw and finished off with a second place finish in the Shot Putt and fourth place finish in the 400m.

Seb Bartocha impressed again as he threw his way into second place in the B Javelin with a second best distance for the season. It was then a Personal Best (PB) jump to seal second place in the Triple Jump and an electric run in the 100m.

Ethan Williams continued his form in the jumps earning a second place finish in both the Long Jump and the High jump and also picking up a third place finish in the Triple Jump with a second best distance for the season.

Robert Harness joined the team for the first time and a strong run in the 800m earned him a new PB time in the 800m to finish fourth, before going on to run the 1,500m for the first time.

Tyler Cossins re-joined the team running a Seasons Best time in both the 200m and 100m, finishing fourth in the 100m. It was then a second place finish in the Long Jump with a Seasons Best distance.

Ian Wilson also re-joined the team for the first time and earnt a third place finish in the B 800m in a SB time as well as running a SB time in the 1,500m to gain a fourth place finish.

Ethan Wilson joined the team for the first time and strengthened the team with first tries at both the 200m and 400m, setting strong best times.

Kevin Ogden had managed to stay out of retirement from the last fixture and managed to best his Seasons Best time in the 5,000m in the pouring rain.

Onto the Women’s side where Isabel White continued to dictate the sprints, with a first place finish in both the 100m and 200m, then later turning her hand to the Discus and throwing a new PB distance.

Molly Waring was in fine form claiming victories in the 400m, 100m Hurdles and High Jump along with a victory in the 400m Hurdles following what can only be described as a mess up by the ground staff raising a hurdle mid race. Molly kept her cool and displayed her excellence in hurdling as she was permitted to re-run alongside the men’s race and beat them all. She also managed to fit in a Long Jump and finish fourth with a Seasons Best jump.

Soraya Crodden continued accumulation of points for the team with second place finishes in the 100m and 200m, with a SB time in the 200m. A first place in the B 400m Hurdles which thankfully were untampered, a further first place in the B Triple Jump with a new PB distance, a third place and another PB distance in the B Hammer Throw which was rounded off with a fourth place and SB throw in the Discus.

It was a second place finish in the Pole Vault for Siobhan Maskill on her first competition attempt at the event setting a strong best height, later going on to throw a SB distance in the Javelin as well.

Emily Sharp complemented Siobhan in the Javelin as she gained a second place finish in the B string with an equal Seasons Best throw, another second place came in the B Shot Putt with a second best throw of the season. As if it wasn’t wet enough already, Emily took on the 2,000m Steeplechase for the first time finishing in third in the B race and later going on to run the 1,500m on top of this.

Summer Haynes joined Emily in the Steeplechase as she also ran in for the first time, it was a second best run of the season for her in the 800m and finished off with a equal first place finish in the High Jump B string on countback.

Estelle Williams raced to first place in the B 100m Hurdles with a second quickest time of the season, a further first place in the B Long Jump, along with a PB throw in the Shot Putt and fourth place finish in the 400m in her third fastest time of the season to round off her day.

Olivia Myers threw her way into a third place finish in the Hammer Throw with a second best distance of the year with the heavier hammer, followed by another third place finish in the Triple Jump with a third best distance of the season.

Natasha Quashie joined the team for the first time as she ran her second best time of the season for a hard fought fourth place finish in the 800m.

All four relays teams ran, the Women’s 4x100m team continued their unbeaten run with a victory for Myers, Waring, Crodden and White. It was a third place finish for the Women’s 4x400m team for Sharp, Williams, White and Waring.

The men’s 4x100m fought to the line for a well earnt third place finish for Cossins, O’Brien, Aspindle and Darby. The Men’s 4x400m successfully navigated the baton round by the team of Ogden, E.Wilson, I.Wilson and Harness.

With the points tallied up and the rain still pouring, at the end of the day we finished in FIRST PLACE! A fantastic effort by all to continue the strong start of the season.
